I'm writing my eleventh book this summer.

Writing and I have had a difficult relationship.

I had such great success years ago, with six novels (that sold a combined half-million copies) and four nonfiction books.

Finally, Lori and I decided to escape Florida and we settled in Reno NV and I discovered that the best job for me is to continue writing and publishing books through our imprint, PETERSEN PRESS.

Nothing happens until you write and rewrite the book.

There are four things you must do before you
can publish your paperback book with CreateSpace:

1. Write the book. Rewrite the book. Proofread the book.
2. Come up with a title for the book. (Throughout my career, I always come up with the title before I write the book.)
3. Decide on what size you want it to be.
4. Create your own cover.

Once you decide what size the book should be, you should paste your entire book into an Amazon Basic Template.
(I do my books in 5 inches x 8 inches.)

Interior Templates

Basically, I write the book in the basic template from the beginning. Easier. You can see what you will get as you go along.

Here's my advice for aspiring writers. WRITE EVERY DAY.

The idea of sitting down every single day and writing profound literary prose can be overwhelming.

But screw the profundity and simply write every day no matter how bad it might be. You can fix it in the rewrite.

Back when I was working nine to five as a nonfiction writer and editor, I got up earlier to write fiction from 5 to 7 each morning. Consequently, I got my nonfiction writing done and still wrote six novels which sold a combined 570,000 copies.

If you want to be a writer, you've got to actually write, every damned day.
